Nakina

Adoption

Nakina was orphaned when she was several months old in 1998 when her mother was shot and killed by a resident near the community of Delta Junction, Alaska. Nakina's mom had been predating on chickens and chicken food, and was teaching her cubs the same thing.  At this point in her life at the Center, Nakina has shown a preference for having time to herself. However, she keeps herself busy swimming in the pond, tossing bones around, tugging on elk hides, and rolling around and stretching.  She even does stretches that resemble yoga poses. Nakina was named after a river near her birthplace.
